Margaret B. Pollard 8th band students received a wonderful surprise Friday, April 4th during their regular band class. Ms. Michele Reams, Pollard director had invited The Red Clay Ramblers to join her class in order to share their music and skills. The musical group wowed the kids with their rendition of Cotton Eyed Joe followed by instrumental warm ups, breathing and metronome exercises and a Battle of the Bands scenario where each group played for the other.

Dear Parents,
In the next few weeks, Chatham County Schools will conduct the Alcohol and Other Drug Survey.  This survey has been conducted every other year since 1990, and is the longest running survey of its kind in the state.  Information from the survey is used to help the school district with assessing our alcohol and other drug prevention efforts.  The survey is confidential and will take about 30 minutes to complete.  If you do not want your child to participate, please send a note to your child's first period teacher by February 28.  Thank you.

In addition, 15 instructional minutes will be added to the school day for all middle schools beginning Monday, March 3, 2014. These changes allow our schools to meet the required 1,025-hour minimum with a small buffer for any unforeseen events in the remaining calendar.  Pollard’s new dismissal time will be 3:15 starting on March 3rd.

Chris Clark, 8th grade math teacher, was chosen by his peers to be Pollard's Teacher of the Year for 2014-15. In addition to his excellent teaching of algebra and math, Mr. Clark serves on the School Leadership Team and is chairman of the School Improvement Committee.
PowerSchool Parent Portal Registration
Margaret B. Pollard Middle School is happy to announce that parents can begin registering for the PowerSchool Parent Portal today.  The PowerSchool Parent Portal is a website that will allow parents to see their student's grades as they are updated by teachers.

Parents are asked to complete a parent verification process before accessing their student's grade and schedule information via the Parent Portal.  This is a one-time process and need only be completed in subsequent years if families enroll new students within Chatham County Schools.  The parent verification process helps to ensure the safety and security of all student grade and class schedule information as required by federal law.

The parent verification process requires three steps:
  1. Parents are invited to download, and complete, the parent verification form from the Chatham County Schools homepage located at: http://www.chatham.k12.nc.us/.  This form is also available from our school's front office if you do not have access to a printer or the Internet.
  2. Parents are then asked to present a separate completed form at each school where families have students attending a Chatham County School.
  3. Parents will need to present some form of photo identification at each school to ensure the safety and security of student information.  For parents who are unwilling, or unable, to provide photo identification they may seek a public notary of their choice to notarize the verification form.
Information will be provided so that parents can go online to activate their PowerSchool Parent Portal account, once the parent verification process has been completed.

Parents are also welcome to attend Northwood High School on Eastern Region Night, Thursday, Novmeber 21 from 6:30pm until 8pm to complete this process.  This is a great opportunity to complete the parent verification process and all schools that feed Northwood High School will be present.  Parents who opt to have their verification notarized need to bring their notarized form with them to the event.

We look forward to your participation in the PowerSchool Parent Portal!
